November Is Cherry Season: Let Wyndford Plan Your Escape

There is a lovely moment in an orchard when you stop looking at the rows of trees and notice the fruit tucked between the leaves. A handful of cherries becomes a basket, and suddenly the trip you kept meaning to take is happening.

For a few short weeks in November, the orchards around Ficksburg and Fouriesburg bring that pleasure to the Eastern Free State. At Wyndford, we are making room for two ways to enjoy it: arrive in your own car with a plan prepared for you, or put your name down for a Cherry Season Tour.

Your own car, with the planning taken care of

If you enjoy travelling at your own pace, choose a weekday or weekend stay during November. There are two self-drive options: three days and two nights, or four days and three nights.

You choose your dates and book your accommodation at Wyndford. We arrange your cherry-picking experience and put together an itinerary with places to visit and things to do during your stay. Then you set off in your own car, with the organising already done.

It is an easy way to turn a few days away into something you will look forward to — whether you are bringing the children, catching up with friends or escaping as a couple.

A shared journey into cherry country

For those who would rather leave the driving to someone else, Cherry Season Tours are planned for Thursday-to-Sunday weekends in November 2026. Planned shuttle routes depart from Pretoria and Johannesburg, with the trip built around your stay at Wyndford, cherry picking and time in the Eastern Free State.

Travelling from somewhere else? Tell us where your group would be coming from. If there is enough interest to fill a shuttle, the team is willing to explore an additional departure point. It could be the excuse your book club, extended family or circle of friends needs to finally put a shared trip in the diary.

The pleasure of coming back to Wyndford

After the orchards, there is no need to fill every remaining hour. Come back to the farm, settle under the trees and let the conversation wander. Dinner is close by, and there is time to enjoy it without another drive.

A walk the next morning, a slow breakfast, a little discussion about how many cherries will fit in the car: these are the quieter moments that turn an outing into a holiday.
