Wyndford Weekly
Dear Wyndford readers,
August turns everything gold.
The winter grass has gone dry and pale, and it runs unbroken from the fence line to the foot of the Malutis, and when the afternoon light comes in low it takes the valley all at once. Sandstone goes amber. The poplars stand bare and silver against it. The whole thing lasts a few weeks and then the first green comes through and it is finished until next winter.
Nobody photographs August. They should.
The mornings are cold and clean and the paths into the foothills belong to whoever gets up. The fire in the lounge is lit by four and nobody has to be asked twice to sit near it.
Then the private schools break, and for two weeks the best light of the year has children running about in it.

Twenty-five percent off the bed-only rate
For the August private school holidays, we are taking 25% off the bed-only rate, and then we are getting out of your way.
Build the rest yourself. Add breakfast if you want to wake up to it. Add dinner. Add both, or neither, and come to the restaurant when the mood takes you. Walk the hike in the morning. Take a glass to the fire in the afternoon while they run themselves flat on the lawn.
You are not buying a package. You are buying a room under the mountains and deciding, each morning, what sort of day you would like to have.

Why are we doing it this way?
Full board is a fine thing and most of our guests choose it. But a family on a school holiday is not a conference. Some mornings you want the full breakfast table. Some mornings you want to sleep. Some evenings you want Lerato’s kitchen and some evenings you want to sit outside with a bottle and let the children eat toast.
We would rather give you the choice than sell you a rate that pretends every day is the same.
The gold is here now. The fire is laid. The wine is chosen.
Come and take the last of the quiet.
With warm regards,
Jandré du Plessis
